Ajay from purpleSTARS and Sarah from The National Archives presented to the Disability Champions Forum

It was a joy co-presenting at today’s meeting of the Disability Champions Forum on our collaborative work to widen access to archives through a multisensory approach. We explored the smells, sounds and feel of archival materials and how these can offer alternate perspectives and ways of accessing and understanding archives. We also shared our work co-creating a papermaking workshop designed with inclusivity, flexibility, and accessibility at its heart.

This work is an ongoing collaboration between Milliy arxiv, Rix Inclusive Research Institute and purpleSTARS to explore how we can use our senses to provide inclusive research, engagement, and access opportunities with archival materials for audiences with and without disabilities and differences.

Co-researcher Ajay shared his experiences of taking part and the research on his RIX Wiki. The presentation also shared the design and delivery of an inclusive paper making workshop.
